About the Certificate 151

Why use a Certificate 151?

Use of the Certificate 151 allows entitled individuals to benefit from their granted tax privileges and claim back the VAT on their purchases done for personal use. This aligns with the privileges granted under international agreements. 

When to use

The purchase of eligible goods and services at stores in Belgium and the wider European Union for which VAT is paid at the moment of the purchase. Your purchase is to be documented with an invoice - the starting point to a validated Certificate 151 and a VAT refund.

Invoice requirements

-> The full name of the entitled individual including either the private or work address.
-> The invoice amounts - the totals with and without VAT.
-> A VAT breakdown - a calculation of the invoice amounts per applicable VAT rate.
-> Store information including name, VAT number and principal address.

How to complete your Certificate 151

Obtain & fill out your Certificate 151

Download a blank Certificate 151, fill out all necessary boxes on the Certificate yourself. If you need help, you can follow our detailed instructions.

Attach the mandatory documents

Attach a copy of the invoice you received from the store. Make sure to check the invoice requirements.

Get your Certificate 151 approved

Submit the paperwork to your local, Belgian tax office and get your Certificate 151 approved.

Send us your paperwork

European legislation requires us to receive the paperwork by normal mail. Having uploaded the paperwork to the Nuvoni portal creates a digital trail - but the paperwork needs to be sent to Nuvoni.

How does Nuvoni handle the Certificate 151?

For SHAPE employees

Create your claim via our web app and upload a copy of your stamped certificate. Once finished please deposit the original stamped document into the Nuvoni mailbox at Carrefour Market or Selexion. Our mailbox is emptied regularly and this service is provided free of charge.

For everyone else

Create your claim via our web app and upload a copy of your stamped certificate. Once finished please mail your stamped certificate 151 to our Brussels Office. Once we receive your certificate we will start the process of getting your VAT refunded.
